It can be ordered online through amazon and is a powder created from seaweed (this is also the same product used when setting up the liquid for paper marbling projects). Perhaps slightly more expensive, but shows cultural sensitivity to students who come from vegetarian families or care about using halal products. I teach at a charter school that serves only vegetarian food and whose student body is at least 1/3 vegetarian - so this was an important consideration. I'm an art teacher at a juvenile detention center, so I have to be very cautious with the materials and tools that we use. Unfortunately, this means that standard relief printmaking gauges and other sharp tools are simply not an option for us. I can't wait to try this with them! My students love unusual projects that have that "magical" effect, and this is definitely one of those.
