Art Teacherin' 101: More Paper Talk!

I know paper isn't the most riveting thing we could be chatting about as art teachers BUT I feel it's so important. Which is why I currently have a wee series of paper chats currently on my YouTube channel!Last week I spoke about how to find the best kind of paper for your art room. In case you missed it, here was the video:Now let's chat about watercolor paper! There's a lot to know there too. Here's...

Art Teacherin' 101: Thoughts on Guided Drawing

I often times feel like there are these notions in art education that you have to pick a side. TAB vs. not TAB. Project-Based vs. Non-Project Based. Guided Drawing vs. Guided-Drawing-is-the-Devil. Here's why I HATE when I'm forced to feel like I have to pick a side.  1. It pits art teachers against one another.  Look, everyone's end goal as an art teacher (at least I hope) is...

In the Art Room: Lesson for Evaluation!

Howdy, friends! I thought I'd share a lesson I recently did with my kiddos that I used during my evaluation. I THINK it was successful, as far as my eval goes, but I KNOW it was a hit with the kids. There are a lot of details to this lesson that I'm calling The 100 Color Challenge. So many details that I think it's best I 'splain it to you via video. Mostly cuz I'm too lazy to type up all dem word...

Art Teacherin' 101: Episode 39

Haha!! I'm BAAAAACK with a lil Art Teacherin' 101 action, y'all. It's been since this summer that I recorded one of these bad boys. Between the podcast, the Wednesday night FB and IG LIVE chats, I kinda thought y'all might be a little bit tired of hearing what I have to say. Unfortunately for you, I STILL GOT LOTS TO SHARE (deal wit it).  Since we are in the throes of Back to Schoolin', my...

Art Teacherin' 101: Episode 38

Winner of the Growth Mindset Coach Playbook announced at the end of this post!  Because I'm a world renowned over-sharer, it may come as a surprise that there was a time, not that long ago, when I didn't blog, post videos, share on social media or present...anywhere. I honestly didn't think that what I had to say was important, valid, and/or worthy of being listened to. It wasn't until it...

Art Teacherin' 101: Episode 37 GLAZE!

If you have a kiln, then you probably have glaze...and you are more than likely well aware of how freakishly expensive glaze is. I swear, it eats about a quarter of my budget. But I just can't give the stuff up: glaze really does give my students the ultimate ceramic experience. So today, I thought I'd share my very favorite glaze brand as well as how I distribute glaze and conserve it...so that...

Art Teacherin' 101: Episode 35

As an art teacher and a human, I find that there are many things I struggle with: consistency, finishing projects before starting new ones and, most of all, organization. I like to think that my decent art teacherin' qualities outweigh the bad but there is no denying this...I'm an Art Teacher Hoarder. And one of these days, my cold and colorfully dressed body is probably going to be found...

Art Teacherin' 101: Episode 31

If you've been joining in on my Facebook LIVE chats which I (attempt) to host each Wednesday night at 8pm CST, then you know it's a large crowd of art teachers from all walks of art teacherin' life: we've got high school teachers all the way down to pre-K. Our common bond is our love for creating art with young artists...and the gamut of feelings that come with that: joy, stress, frustration, celebration,...

Art Teacherin': Episode 29

Ah, early finishers. Y'all know what I'm talkin' about: those kids who are "DONE!" like they are some sort of turkey dinner. And isn't it funny how "DONE!" is contagious? It's like popcorn kernels in a bag of microwave popcorn; once one starts poppin', they all do. So...what do you do with those early finishers? Check out this video for my tips, tricks and tour of my art room! I don't know if you...

Hey, y'all! I'm taking a break from tonight's usual Facebook LIVE session as the husband has requested a night out. But I'll be back next Wednesday, 8 pm CST to chat about all things First Year Art Teacher-y! You can still catch...
